    Basic income for citizens

Like many crises, the coronavirus pandemic has harsh economic implications for citizens. During the coronavirus crisis, the poorest and most marginalized communities were strongly affected, with fewer resources to protect themselves and their health.

On April 9 2020, the Brazilian Congress decided to implement a law that will provide a basic income to Brazilians for the time of the Covid-19 crisis. About 59 million low-income Brazilians will benefit directly, and twice that number indirectly – more than half of Brazil’s total population in total. The basic income scheme will run for at least three months, with a possible extension after this time period.

To find out more about the Brazilian government’s initiative, read the following article or this piece by a press agency
