Culture & Popcorn – Reconnecting the Homeless with the Community Through Culture

Culture and Popcorn bridges social exclusion by integrating homeless individuals into cultural life, fostering re-socialisation and personal growth.

BRIDGING CULTURAL ISOLATION

Homelessness often deprives people of access to cultural experiences, deepening their sense of isolation. This project bridges that gap, reconnecting participants with the local community and fostering personal growth and independence. Key activities include guided visits to theatres, concerts, museums, and cultural events, alongside shared meals that strengthen social bonds between participants and team members in a relaxed setting. Reflection sessions follow each event, helping participants process their experiences, build self-confidence, and nurture a lasting interest in cultural engagement — even beyond the shelter environment.

RAISING AWARENESS AND BUILDING PARTNERSHIPS

The project actively raises public awareness through social media outreach and has successfully built partnerships with cultural institutions across Zagreb.

PROMOTING INCLUSION AND EMPOWERMENT

By promoting inclusion, boosting self-esteem, and encouraging steps towards employment and recovery, participants have accessed medical treatment, overcome addiction, and secured jobs. By reducing stigma and fostering collaboration between citizens and institutions, the project contributes to a more inclusive, compassionate society.
