This project connects health centres with Civic Centres to promote holistic well-being through personalised activity prescriptions.
BEYOND PRIMARY CARE: PROMOTING HOLISTIC HEALTH
When citizens feel unwell, their first stop is usually primary healthcare. Yet, prevention can play an even more decisive role, and health professionals recognise this. Being healthy means more than the absence of illness – it’s about emotional well-being, pursuing personal interests, and being an active part of the community. Civic Centres are welcoming public spaces offering a variety of activities and services, from physical exercise and cultural courses to social services.
PRESCRIPTIONS FOR WELLNESS AND COMMUNITY CONNECTION
This project forges a collaboration between health centres and Civic Centres, connecting citizens with the resources they need to improve their overall well-being. At Wellness Points, located in the Salburua and Zabalgana Civic Centres, citizens receive personalised guidance. Health professionals issue prescriptions in a familiar medical format—indicating areas such as physical activity, emotional well-being, nutrition, culture, or social engagement—and Wellness Points help citizens find and register for suitable activities.
IMPACT AND CONTINUOUS EVOLUTION
Since launch, over 150 citizens have visited Wellness Points with prescriptions in hand, and many more have been inspired to participate after seeing prescriptions displayed on information panels. The project has contributed to a decrease in pharmaceutical prescriptions for depression and anxiety, thanks to emotional well-being sessions. Activities continuously evolve, guided by feedback from health centres. For example, the “Pills” programme helps prevent falls among older adults. This flexible approach ensures the project stays relevant and meets the changing needs of the community.
