Innovators in politics compete again for prestigious European Award

Vienna, Austria, 14 September 2022:

The Innovation in Politics Institute has opened applications for their annual Awards programme, now in its sixth year. As Europe faces increasing challenges in politics, economy and climate, the Innovation in Politics Awards recognise innovators across Europe who are creating a more democratic, inclusive and sustainable future for their community, region or country.

Initiatives and projects from all Council of Europe member states are encouraged to apply for an Innovation in Politics Award by 15 November 2022. They will have the chance to win in one of eight categories:

Democracy, Climate Protection, Democracy Technologies*, Education, Government Improvement*, Social Cohesion, Local Development*, and Party Innovation*.

For each Award ten finalists and one winner will be chosen, who will be announced at a gala in May 2023, which all finalists will be invited to attend. The winning projects will be selected by a Europe-wide Citizens’ Jury, of 1,000 members, in January 2023.

The winners are also offered a platform to share their notable contributions as well as  networking opportunities to inspire politicians and policy-makers from around Europe.

Since its launch in 2017, the Innovation in Politics Award has honoured 650 innovators who have been chosen by more than 5,000 Citizens’ jurors. Project owners may submit an online application themselves, or they can be nominated for an Award by anyone.

Edward Strasser, CEO of the Innovation in Politics Institute, said:

“Democracy is under assault like it has not been for a long time. With the Awards, politicians get inspiration to improve their work and strengthen trust in democracy. Every year, we adapt the Awards categories to reflect the most pressing challenges for politics and society. This year, we are introducing five new Awards categories: Democracy Technologies, Government Improvement, Social Cohesion, Local Development and Party Innovation. If you are running a project or know someone that deserves recognition – we want to hear from you and give you the recognition you deserve.”
