Maintaining the supply of medical equipment during a crisis can be difficult as producers may be overwhelmed by the demand. Still, it is possible that other companies use their capabilities to step in a new and innovative form.
The municipality of Viterbo, in partnership with the University of Tuscia and the Chamber of Commerce and other experts, launched an initiative to produce washable and reusable masks. The companies in the region provide the resources for production by reconverting their production lines for the construction of masks. As these companies need quite a large amount of money to restart their production, the municipality opened a special bank account to collect donations. By allowing citizens to carry out the activities permitted by government directives without undermining their own and others’ safety, this initiative also supports local businesses.
