To excel in remote learning is easier if you have a device that empowers you to participate in online educational activities. The access to technology has never been more important for the roughly 55 million students affected by school closures in the U.S. Covid-19 has forced more than 124,000 public and private schools to shut their doors for the foreseeable future, according to estimates.
The largest county in Maryland, Montgomery County, is making sure that students who need laptops will get them. Public school staff handed out laptops across the county. To avoid physical contact, a drive-through system has been established: parents drive to the pick-up spot, show a piece of paper with their child’s student ID number. Staff members wearing face masks and disposable gloves communicate the number to their colleagues standing a few feet away. Then the laptops are handed over.
