Cities are getting ready for the time when more people return to roads and public spaces. With physical distancing rules still in place, they need to come up with new solutions to free up space.
The city of Portland is widening sidewalks, closing through streets to car traffic, and installing pop-up biking lanes. By giving more space to pedestrians, cyclists, and people lining up in front of shops, the city redesigns its public space to be compatible with physical distancing.
