Using AI as early warning system

Artificial intelligence technology mines through news reports and online content to help experts recognize anomalies.

When diseases first pop up in different areas of a country/state/city/area, it can often be difficult for politicians and policy-makers to coordinate an effective and target-oriented response.

As Covid-19 already spread to many countries and future outbreaks in other regions are not clear yet, AI capabilities can be used to predict scenarios. In case of Covid-19, AI helped a Canadian firm to detect the emergence of the virus days before the WHO sent out official notices. AI could help other governments to predict its spread and give them valuable time to initiate measures in advance.

This initiative was started by the Canadian Start-up BlueDot. For further information, please visit bluedot.global.
