Using contact trackers to fight the spread of covid-19

Tracing the movements and contacts of an infected person is important to control an outbreak, and to protect vulnerable groups. As the coronavirus can be transmitted via direct transmission, contact transmission as well as aerosol transmission, it is imperative to immediately figure out where patients have been. And, time is a highly critical factor in this regard.

In Singapore, as soon as virus patients are diagnosed, a special team of contact tracers aims to gather a full picture of patients’ movements within 24 hours. This enables a health ministry team, police and security cameras to identify and find contacts who may be at risk.

This initiative was started by Singapore General Hospital (SGH). You can find further information here.
