PocketWoods (Taskumetsä)

Taskumetsä reconnects Finnish children with forests and biodiversity through an innovative mobile game that promotes sustainable forest management and environmental education.

BRIDGING THE NATURE GAP

Finland’s identity and economy are deeply rooted in its vast forests, yet many children today have limited direct experience with nature. To address this, Taskumetsä was created as an innovative mobile game that brings Finnish forests to life on digital devices. Designed for elementary school-aged children, the game offers an interactive and fun way to explore biodiversity and the environment.

INNOVATIVE GAME DESIGN FOR LEARNING

Developed by KOKO Games in partnership with the Central Union of Agricultural Producers and Forest Owners (MTK), Taskumetsä combines technology and education with sustainability at its core. After successful development and testing phases, the game is now being implemented in schools and homes across Finland. It encourages children to engage with forest ecosystems through gameplay that highlights the importance of biodiversity and ecosystem health.

PROMOTING SUSTAINABILITY AND STEWARDSHIP

Taskumetsä takes a socially responsible approach by using digital gaming as a tool to foster environmental awareness and sustainable practices. By teaching children the principles of sustainable forest management in an accessible way, the project supports Finland’s cultural heritage and inspires a new generation of environmentally conscious citizens. This blend of technology and nature education ensures lasting connections to Finland’s forests, even for those growing up in urban settings.
