The COVID-19 crisis is not only a health crisis, but a severe social crisis as well. Social distancing and the plea to stay at home is hard for many people, and can cause feelings of loneliness and depression. Many people now find themselves isolated and suffer from the deprivation of social contact.
To counter this, the community of San Lazzaro has started the telephone-project “Pronto, come stai?” (Hi, how are you?). Community members receive phone calls from the municipality, in which they can share their feelings and needs. The elderly and lonely community members can converse by phone and ask for support – for example for assistance in shopping for essential supplies. With this ambitious project, the municipality detects the needs of members of their community, so it can dedicate resources where needed and support citizens during social isolation.
The project is brought forward by the Community of San Lazzaro di Savena in Italy. More information can be found here.
