No single individual can overcome the coronavirus crisis alone. It requires solidarity among all citizens. What we have seen so far was a diverse set of mutual aid groups on social media; governments can play a significant role in mobilising volunteers, as well.
The French government started the initiative “Réserve Civique” which calls French citizens to carry out tasks for vulnerable groups during the coronavirus crisis. On a digital platform, the initiative calls for volunteers to distribute basic necessities, to stay in contact with isolated and fragile people, to help to look after children, to shop for essential products for neighbours in need, and to help students with homework via remote learning.
