    Banishing car traffic from the city’s streets

    To prevent traffic chaos on the streets and an overcrowded public transport, many cities open their streets for bicyclists and pedestrians.

    Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf announced that the city government will banish car traffic from 74 miles of the city’s streets. This measure aims to provide bicyclists and pedestrians with more safe space on the streets of Oakland to commute and get exercise and fresh air. The streets are not completely closed, however; the designated bike and pedestrian lanes are marked with cones and signs.
