    Digital infrastructure for homeschooling

Due to the worldwide Covid-19 pandemic, lessons for hundreds of thousands of Viennese students have been taking place at home. Learning and completing tasks at home can pose great social and technical challenges – especially for children who do not have access to a computer at home.

To provide the best possible support for the Viennese schoolchildren in this difficult situation, the city of Vienna reacted quickly and made 5,000 new laptops available as loan devices.

The digital learning platform Microsoft Office 365 is also provided to all pupils of the public primary and secondary schools and their teachers free of charge as a common digital learning platform. Online collaboration teams have been set up for all Viennese school classes, allowing coordination of homework and learning content. The city of Vienna has also expanded the free online learning aid for students between 10 and 14 years of age.
