To support the elderly in shopping and health matters, the city district government set up its own network to connect younger and older citizens.
Government actions to slow virus outbreaks can imply that specific vulnerable groups cannot care for themselves anymore. For example, during the Covid-19 situation, the elderly are asked to stay at home as they are among the most vulnerable members of society. Consequently, they are not able to buy the products they need.
To ensure that the needs of elder citizens, who are living in its city district, are satisfied the district government currently forms a support network of younger citizens supporting the elderly. The former support the latter and go to the grocery store or to buy necessary medicine at the closest pharmacy. This initiative was started by the District government of the Chairwomen of the District Council of Wieden, Vienna.
