The effects of the Covid-19 outbreak show that epidemics and pandemics cannot be dealt with on a national scale, but that global interdependencies must be taken into account. In order to be better prepared for worldwide health crises in the future, broad-based research must be supported
The Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) is, therefore, launching an interdisciplinary funding initiative. Funding will be provided for projects dealing with the prevention, early detection, containment, and research into the causes and effects of epidemics and pandemics and how to tackle them, using SARS-CoV-2 and other human pathogenic microorganisms and viruses as examples.
