Daily wage workers in Indian‘s urban centres are mostly working in informal settings and hence particularly vulnerable to being suddenly laid off and losing their income.
The coronovirus pandemic has brought with it the largest global lockdown with 1.3 billion people affected in India. The lockdown has resulted in widespread termination of work for daily wage workers. Thousands of people have lost their source of income and are therefore unable to provide basic necessities for themselves and their families.
Provision packages with food are distributed in a variety of Indian cities to support daily wage workers to prevent starvation and hunger. Through the cooperation between voluntary services, wholesalers, distribution networks and donations, thousands of packages can be collected and brought to the people in need.
