Retired teachers support students and parents

During the coronavirus crisis, many students are not allowed to go to school and attend classes. Thus, homeschooling has become a major challenge for teachers, students, and parents alike. Especially for those who lack the technical infrastructure for video conferencing or webinars.

To support pupils in compulsory school and their parents during homeschooling, the city of Klagenfurt in Austria launched an initiative for phone tutorials: retired teachers help pupils with the main subjects such as maths and languages via telephone only. Additionally, these former teachers act as contact persons for parents. It is important to add that this support is not to be offered via video conference or an app, but via telephone as some teachers, parents or students simply lack the technical infrastructure.
