    New type of oxygen device to help Covid-19 patients breathe

    Ventilators are amongst the most important tools for keeping Covid-19 patients in the most critical condition alive. However, intensive care units all over the world are reporting shortages.

    To find a solution for this problem, researchers at the Vienna University of Technology have developed an oxygen device based on simple, tried and tested components which can be found in any DIY store: an oil-free compressor, an air filter, the piping and a container for humidifying the air – and a module with a special membrane to increase the oxygen content. Another great advantage: it works without oxygen bottles as the oxygen simply comes from the ambient air. Production could be completed within a few days. Currently, the university is in talks with companies who could take on the production.
