    #WirvsVirus – Hackathons develop solutions to manage the crisis

    In times of crisis, multiple challenges arise not only for governments but also for businesses and citizens. During the coronavirus crisis, it proves difficult to efficiently manage precious hospital resources or to successfully track the spread of the virus. Digital technologies can provide solutions for many tasks which governments, hospitals, businesses and civil society currently face.

    Therefore, governments and independent organizations are initiating Hackathons to develop digital solutions to tackle primary and secondary effects of Covid-19. The process already is a huge success: In Germany, more than 43.000 participants worked on solving the pre-selected 800 challenges. All solutions are then made available open source. Other countries, among them Argentina, Brasil, India, Colombia, Lithunia and Austria have started similar efforts. Supporting the WHO, a global COVID-19-Hackathon has been launched as well.

    This initiative was started by the mentioned governments in cooperation with several partnering organizations and institutions.
